U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis, who represents Florida’s 12th district, has recently addressed several key policy issues on his social media account, focusing on energy independence, veterans’ benefits, and border security.
On July 21, 2025, Bilirakis emphasized the importance of domestic energy production in a tweet: “Keeping our energy supply strong isn’t just about saving money — it’s about protecting our country. When we produce energy here at home we stay independent and strong on the global stage. The regulatory reforms passed as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and that we have”.
Later that day, he highlighted bipartisan support for his legislative efforts to aid combat-wounded veterans: “More than 340 Members of Congress support my #MajorRichardStarAct. It’s bipartisan, widely endorsed, and morally necessary. 54,000 combat-wounded veterans are being denied their full retirement pay. My bill will restore up to $1,200/month in retirement pay to these”.
On July 22, 2025, Bilirakis commented on an incident involving a Customs and Border Protection officer: “This horrific attack is a direct result of open-border policies that let criminal illegal aliens into our country. We must restore law and order — and that starts with securing our border. Praying for a full recovery for this brave CBP officer.”
Bilirakis has served in Congress since 2007 after succeeding Michael Bilirakis and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. He was born in Gainesville in 1963 and currently resides in Palm Harbor. Bilirakis holds degrees from the University of Florida (BA) and Stetson University (JD).
