Gus Bilirakis, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 12th district since 2007, has recently addressed several legislative priorities on his official Twitter account, including consumer protection, Medicaid provisions, and efforts to improve Medicare accessibility.
On August 19, 2025, Bilirakis expressed support for recent enforcement actions by the Federal Trade Commission: “I applaud the @FTC for using the authority granted by Congress through the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act to crack down on bad actors who exploit consumers through deceptive and unfair practices. This enforcement is a crucial step toward protecting the public and ensuring”.
Later that day, he referenced an analysis from the Congressional Budget Office regarding proposed Medicaid changes: “This graphic reflects the Congressional Budget Office’s latest analysis of the impact of the One Big Beautiful Bill’s provision to strengthen Medicaid to ensure it is preserved for our most vulnerable Americans. It’s important to note that Floridians are not subject to the work”.
On August 20, 2025, Bilirakis highlighted ongoing bipartisan initiatives aimed at improving healthcare information for seniors: “ICYMI – I am working to empower seniors to make better-informed decisions about their health care. I’m proud to be part of this bipartisan effort to simplify Medicare and make it more accessible and user-friendly for older Americans.”
Bilirakis has represented Florida’s 12th congressional district since succeeding Michael Bilirakis in 2007. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 until 2006. Born in Gainesville in 1963 and currently residing in Palm Harbor, Bilirakis holds degrees from both the University of Florida and Stetson University.
