Gus Bilirakis, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 12th district, has recently addressed several issues of concern through a series of posts on social media. His statements focus on support for seniors, advocacy for military personnel, and recognition of Military Consumer Month.
On July 10, 2025, Bilirakis expressed his position regarding taxation on Social Security benefits. He stated, “Our seniors have faced incredible challenges in recent years—and they deserve better. I believe it’s fundamentally unfair to tax Social Security benefits. That’s why I’ve joined my colleagues in cosponsoring the No Taxation on Social Security Act. While Senate rules unfortunately”.
The following day, July 11, 2025, Bilirakis highlighted his engagement with Department of Defense officials concerning the Major Richard Star Act. He wrote, “ICYMI- This week, I met with senior DOD officials about the urgent need to support my Major Richard Star Act which addresses the injustice featured in this story.”
Later that same day, Bilirakis recognized Military Consumer Month and underscored the importance of supporting military families beyond their service on the battlefield. He stated, “July is Military Consumer Month. This month, we honor the strength and sacrifice of our service members, Veterans, and military families—not just on the battlefield, but in everyday life. Protecting those who protect us means empowering the military community with the tools to”.
Gus Bilirakis has represented Florida’s 12th District in Congress since 2007 after succeeding Michael Bilirakis. Previously he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. Born in Gainesville in 1963 and now residing in Palm Harbor, Bilirakis holds a BA from the University of Florida (1986) and a JD from Stetson University (1989).
