Gus Bilirakis, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 12th district since 2007, recently posted a series of updates on his official X account regarding state appointments, pharmaceutical safety, and legislative engagement with constituents.
On August 12, 2025, Bilirakis congratulated Jay Collins on his new role in state government. He wrote: “Congratulations to my friend, @JayCollinsFL on his appointment as Florida’s Lieutenant Governor. Jay is a true patriot who has made significant sacrifices for our nation and has proven himself to be a passionate public servant with a tireless work ethic. I am confident he will”.
The following day, Bilirakis addressed the issue of counterfeit drugs and advocated for increased domestic production. In an August 13 post he stated: “We must take stronger action to stop the dangerous spread of counterfeit drugs and hold bad actors accountable. As co-founder of the Domestic Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Caucus, I believe the best way to protect patients and ensure safety is by increasing the production of”.
Later that same day, Bilirakis highlighted discussions with local residents about legislative matters affecting their community. Bilirakis has served in Congress since succeeding Michael Bilirakis in 2007 after previously serving in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. Born in Gainesville in 1963 and currently residing in Palm Harbor at age 60, he holds degrees from both the University of Florida (BA) and Stetson University (JD).
