Gus Bilirakis, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 12th district since 2007, has recently used his social media platform to highlight legislative efforts and meetings focused on veterans’ benefits, rare disease therapies, and support for working families.
On September 8, 2025, Bilirakis posted about his ongoing advocacy for the Major Richard Star Act: “ICYMI: I’m continuing to push the Major Richard Star Act—a bipartisan bill to end the injustice of concurrent receipt for over 50,000 combat-wounded Veterans. I’m urging my colleagues to support my effort this week to include it in the National Defense Authorization Act.”
Later that day, he shared details of a meeting with Dr. Marty Makary, the new FDA Administrator: “I recently met with Dr. Marty Makary, the new FDA Administrator, to discuss the agency’s new Rare Disease Evidence Principles (RDEP) — a framework designed to bring greater speed, clarity, and predictability to the review process for therapies targeting rare diseases with very”.
On September 9, 2025, Bilirakis addressed economic issues facing Floridians by stating: “The One Big Beautiful Bill is exactly what Florida’s working families need—real support, real solutions.”
Bilirakis has represented Florida’s 12th district in Congress since succeeding Michael Bilirakis in 2007. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 until 2006. Born in Gainesville in 1963 and currently residing in Palm Harbor at age 60, Bilirakis holds degrees from both the University of Florida (BA) and Stetson University (JD).
