Gus Bilirakis, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 12th district since 2007, recently shared updates on his official X account regarding local healthcare initiatives, national remembrance efforts, and legislative action on energy security.
On September 18, 2025, Bilirakis highlighted a meeting with Dr. Patrick Hwu of Moffitt Cancer Center and patient Tara Scalise: “Great to meet with @MoffittNews CEO Dr. Patrick Hwu to discuss the lifesaving work being done at their center and their exciting expansion efforts at the Pasco County campus. We were joined by Moffitt patient and my friend, Tara Scalise.”
The following day, September 19, 2025, he marked National POW/MIA Recognition Day by posting: “Today, on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of America’s Prisoners of War and those who are still Missing in Action. We will never forget their service — and we remain committed to bringing every hero home. Their sacrifice”
Later that same day, Bilirakis commented on recent legislative developments in Congress: “In a major step forward for America’s energy security, the House just passed H.R. 1047 – the GRID Power Act with my support. With electricity demand surging due to AI, domestic manufacturing, and electrification, our grid must be ready. But outdated rules and Biden’s anti-energy”
Bilirakis has represented Florida’s 12th district in Congress since succeeding Michael Bilirakis in 2007. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. Born in Gainesville in 1963 and currently residing in Palm Harbor at age 60, Bilirakis earned a BA from the University of Florida in 1986 followed by a JD from Stetson University in 1989.
