Gus Bilirakis, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 12th district since 2007, used his social media platform this week to address key legislative and political issues, including Medicare provider payments, airport security delays, and election legislation.
On March 11, 2026, Bilirakis announced new legislation in the healthcare sector. He wrote, “This week, I introduced the Promoting Fairness for Medicare Providers Act to help protect seniors’ access to timely, affordable, high-quality care. Under current Medicare policies, reimbursement differences between physician offices and ambulatory surgical centers can” (March 11, 2026).
Later that day, Bilirakis commented on national transportation concerns related to Department of Homeland Security operations. He stated, “The Democrat-led DHS shutdown is causing HOURS-long security lines at airports nationwide, leaving Americans stuck and missing their spring break flights. There is absolutely NO reason for families’ travel plans to be held hostage for political games. Democrats must stop” (March 11, 2026).
On March 12, Bilirakis called on the Senate to pass election-related legislation. He posted: “It’s time for my Senate colleagues to take this commonsense step, pass the SAVE America Act, and ensure fair, secure elections for all Americans.” (March 12, 2026).
Bilirakis has served in Congress since succeeding Michael Bilirakis in 2007 and previously represented constituents in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. Born in Gainesville in 1963 and currently residing in Palm Harbor at age 60, he holds degrees from the University of Florida and Stetson University.
