Gus Bilirakis, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 12th district since 2007, shared several updates on his social media account this week. His posts highlighted a meeting with an important religious leader, a tribute to the United States Air Force, and ongoing legislative efforts to support seniors’ health care.
On September 17, 2025, Bilirakis posted about welcoming the Ecumenical Patriarch: “It was an immense blessing and a singular honor to welcome His All-Holiness Bartholomew Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome, and Ecumenical Patriarch. Later that same day, Bilirakis addressed health care policy: “Strong clinical laboratories are essential not just for quality health care, but for keeping seniors living healthy, independent lives which is why my colleagues and I are working together in a bipartisan manner to protect seniors’ access to laboratory testing.”
Bilirakis has represented Florida’s 12th District in Congress since replacing Michael Bilirakis in 2007. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. Born in Gainesville in 1963 and currently residing in Palm Harbor at age 60, Bilirakis holds degrees from both the University of Florida (BA) and Stetson University (JD).
