Bilirakis, who has served in Congress following his tenure in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006, continues to engage with legislative matters and local community successes.
On June 9, 2025, Gus Bilirakis announced that he received the Visionary Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He expressed pride in this recognition, stating “I am proud to receive the Visionary Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology! This recognition means so much—as it is a reflection of my work to protect patient access to quality eye care.”
Later that day, Bilirakis highlighted legislative efforts through “The Big Beautiful Bill,” which introduces new work requirements for able-bodied adults participating in federal programs aimed at assisting vulnerable citizens. He clarified that these requirements apply only in states with expanded eligibility, excluding Florida. He stated “The Big Beautiful Bill introduces new work requirements for able-bodied adults participating in federal programs that are designed to help our most vulnerable citizens.”
On June 10, 2025, Bilirakis extended congratulations to Pasco-Hernando State College’s baseball team for winning the NJCAA Division II National Championship. In his message celebrating their success, he remarked “Congratulations to our very own Pasco-Hernando State College baseball team on winning the NJCAA Division II National Championship! Your hard work, dedication, and teamwork have truly paid off!”
Gus Bilirakis was born in Gainesville, Florida in 1963 and currently resides in Palm Harbor. He graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in 1986 and earned a JD from Stetson University in 1989.
