Hernando County commissioners approved a plan last month to redevelop property around Kass Circle.
The county has been preparing for the formal redevelopment of the area for about five years, but a dedicated funding source has not been approved yet, because doing so would give the neighborhood an unfair advantage in the county, the commissioners said when they approved the plan.
The redevelopment plan was supposed to have a community park with a playground, fitness equipment, picnic areas and walking trails, but it won't because the county sold the property that was meant for a park to state Rep. Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill)'s home-building company, Hartland Homes, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Commissioner John Allocco said he wanted to see the area improve.
"I have a large concern about how this is going to move forward, and then the next thing is there will be the Hernando Beach CRA and the Masaryktown CRA ... I think we’re opening up a can of worms," he told the news agency.
