Saint Leo University Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
Saint Leo University baseball head coach Rick O'Dette completed his coaching staff for the upcoming 2022 season as he promoted former volunteer assistant coach Josiah Hissong to an assistant coach and added Mitchell Wydetic as the newest volunteer assistant to go along with current head assistant coach Tony Caldwell who joined the Lions prior to the 2021 season. Hissong has been a member of the Saint Leo coaching staff for the past two seasons while Wydetic joins the Lions after two seasons at Saint Petersburg College.
Hissong joined the Lions in the Fall of 2019 after graduating from Alderson Broaddus University. He has been an integral part of the coaching staff for the last two seasons as the program waded its way through the COVID-19 pandemic. He takes part in all facets of the program including being the point of contact for all Saint Leo baseball camps and clinics, helping with recruiting and serving as the first base coach during games. He is a former catcher who spent three seasons behind the plate for the Battlers at ABU before transiting to a student coach role.
Wydetic is a 2019 graduate of the University of Florida where he served as the head student manager for the Gator baseball program. During his time at Florida, he helped coordinate game and practice procedures as well as helped with away game travel necessities. He also helped coordinate and execute prospect and summer camps to help generate funds for the program. Following his time in Gainesville, Wydetic joined the coaching staff at Saint Petersburg College where he spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He served as the third base coach on game days and helped organize, schedule and operate the daily practices while focusing on the outfield position group.
At Saint Leo, Wydetic will work primarily with the infielders while assisting head assistant coach Tony Caldwell with hitting instruction.
