Saint Leo University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.
The Saint Leo women's soccer team had a solid showing against No. 1 Flagler Sunday night on the road. The Lions (0-1-1) dropped a 4-1 decision in the non-conference tilt against the Saints (1-0).
Bella Arato finished a set piece off a free kick to equalize the game within the opening minute of the second half. Arato's goal finished a beautiful assist by Nina Mueller, her second consecutive game recording an assist. Despite the rally, the Saints were able to pull ahead and defend their top national ranking. The Saints escaped any overtime whispers by netting three goals in a five-minute span.
The Green and Gold compiled nine shots on the night. Meanwhile, on the other end of the field, Alyssa Abernot faced 13 shots of which she earned three saves.
Saint Leo will look ahead to prepare for its' home opener scheduled on Friday, Sept. 10 hosting the West Florida Argonauts at noon.
