Hernando County issued the following announcement on Sept. 25.
Hernando County Transit (TheBus) is excited about the implementation of Flamingo Fares, a new electronic payment system to simplify transit use for Hernando County riders. This new system allows riders to pay transit fares using a re-loadable smartcard or smartphone app, which can also be used on other participating transit agencies.
TheBus will be transitioning to this new electronic payment system (smartcard or app) moving forward but will continue to accept the existing mode of payment at the current time.
