Edward Waters College Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.
A laser focused and highly motivated Edward Waters women's volleyball squad rolled into the HRC Arena on Thursday to face the Benedict College Lady Tigers in an SIAC matchup. The Purple & Orange rolled to a 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19) victory to notch their fifth consecutive win and ninth out of their last 10 matches.
EWU (12-6) were able to fend off Benedict as well as a hostile environment in Columbia to grasp victory, hitting.176 and holding BC to a .076 hitting percentage.
Freshman Saldy Amparo Smith had a double-double on the evening with a game high 15 kills, while notching 14 digs. Junior Arielly De Souza and sophomore Caytlin Willis each had nine kills, while freshman Catherine Richards had six for EWU.
Senior Andrea Diaz Merced had 21 assists on the night to help the Lady Tiger cause, while both senior Anyssa Guzman and De Souza each had 13 digs.
Edward Waters will return back to the floor on Wednesday, October 6th against Morris College at 6:00pm to begin a three-game homestand at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
