Saint Leo University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 18.
The 12th-ranked Saint Leo men's golf team is in the clubhouse as the leader by three-strokes after the first 36-holes of the Copperhead Championship hosted by the fourth-ranked West Florida Argonauts.
The Lions fired off a two-under 282 for round one to sit atop the leaderboard before a five-over second round, 289, allowed for Lander to close the gap and sit three-stroke shy of the Green and Gold at the close of Monday's two-rounds. Saint Leo is leading the way with No. 4 West Florida in third at 14-over, 582, no. 1 Arkansas Tech and no. 2 Barry tied for fourth at 15-over, 583.
Alberto Castangara is the clubhouse leader heading into Tuesday at five-under 137 following back-to-back sub-70 rounds on the par-71 7,209-yard Copperhead Course. Castagnara opened play with a 69 (-2) before shaving a stroke for a second round 68 (-3).
Of the 90 players in the field, four Lions are inside the top-half with Castagnara leading the way in first, Alex Heck in eighth (144), Francois Cilliers in 18th (146), and Jake Nash in 29th (148).
