Hernando County issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.
Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference at American Aviation Flight Academy located in the Brooksville-Tampa Regional Airport to announce the award of a $6.1 million
grant to help fund the joint-agency project to build a technical training complex in Hernando County. The complex is a joint project between Hernando County Government, the
Hernando County School District and Pasco-Hernando State College. This grant application was a collaborative effort between all three entities.
“We are excited for Hernando County Schools to begin equipping our graduating students with the skills necessary to immediately enter today's workforce and receive an income
they can not only survive but prosper upon” said Hernando County Board of County Commission Chairman John Allocco. “This will also give a hand-up to Pasco-Hernando State
College to create degree and certification programs for those interested in advanced education opportunities in high-tech fields.”
The focus of this project is to support Hernando County’s local workforce by providing much needed, affordable vocational and technical education options, allowing more adults in
our community access to lucrative jobs in high-demand occupations. The new Center will be located on undeveloped County land, adjacent to the airport. The $6.1 million grant
funds will be used to prepare this property and add the necessary infrastructure prior to the start of construction.
“The investment from the Governor for this workforce training center in Hernando County will assist to ensure we have trained employees for the companies that are located here
now, and any future companies that relocate here from other states and areas” said Hernando County Administrator Jeff Rogers.
This award is funded through the Florida Job Growth Grant. Funds from this Grant are designed to promote the advancement of technical programs.
