3

Saint Leo University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 27.

Josef Hefele found the back of nationally ranked Sunshine State Conference foe, Lynn, in the 51st minute to record Wednesday night's first goal at the Saint Leo Soccer Field.

Despite the early lead, Saint Leo dropped a 3-1 decision to the No. 18 Fighting Knights.

Saint Leo (3-10-3, 1-6-2 SSC) fired off eight shots forcing five saves by the Lynn (11-3, 7-2 SSC) goalkeeper, Patrick Nettekoven, who made gravity defying saves to preserve the

Fighting Knight's victory. Miguel Fernandez was one Lion who was upset by the flying keeper. Fernandez paced the Green and Gold's offense with three shots.

Josef Hefele tallied his second goal of the season converting a beautiful cross by Mauro Diaz. Diaz's pass was tapped by Karl Nyman to the bottom left corner of the net and

finished by the German freshman defender.

Lukas Hombach matched Hefele's goal six minutes later and he would go on to score the insurance goal in the last four minutes. In between his pair, teammate Ali Koller tallied the

go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute.

Saint Leo goalkeeper, Joao Kozlowski, earned the start and five saves in 90 minutes of work.

The Lions will wrap up the 2021 season on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at home against Florida Southern, starting at 7:00 p.m.
