County of Hernando issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.
At its regular meeting on November 16, 2021, the Hernando County Board of County Commission (BOCC) voted to officially name the joint-agency project to build a technical training complex at the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport. The official chosen name for the complex is the Dr. Dennis Wilfong Center for Success.
Dr. Dennis Wilfong was a local businessman and humanitarian who peacefully passed away at the age of 74 on August 26, 2021. Dr. Wilfong founded Innovative Technology, Inc., a world class manufacturing firm headquartered in Hernando County. Innovation Technology, Inc. grew into a multi-million-dollar company providing products across the United States and 38 countries before being sold in 1997. Dr. Wilfong conducted countless seminars for entities such as NASA, the Pentagon, Federal Aviation Administration, numerous utilities as well as Fortune 500 companies including Ford Motor Company, Federal Express and many more. He received the 1996 Business of the Year Award from the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce, chaired the Business Development section of the Hernando County Summit, and served as an Ambassador of Commerce and Employment for the City of Brooksville. Dr. Wilfong shared in the vision to create opportunities for residents to gain skills in key industries and helped develop the project now known as the Center for Success.
The purpose of this joint-agency project between Hernando County Government, School Board and Pasco-Hernando State College, is to support Hernando County’s local workforce by providing much needed, affordable vocational and technical education options, allowing more adults in our community access to lucrative jobs in high-demand occupations. The new Center will be located on undeveloped County land, adjacent to the airport.
