Harden's 25 points not enough loss to Florida Memorial

Edward Waters College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

The Edward Waters men's basketball squad's losing streak unfortunately grew to three after their 80-71 loss to rival Florida Memorial at the Keiser University Holiday Classic at the Countess de Hoernle Student Life Center.

Edward Waters (3-4) held on to a six point lead with 13:01 left in the first half but with basketball being the ultimate game of runs, Florida Memorial (5-4) went on an 11-2 run to take a 20-17 lead with 8:54 left, a lead they would not relinquish. The Lions lead grew to nine as they took a 35-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was none to kind to the Purple & Orange either, as the Florids Memorial lead grew to 20 at 52-32 with 16:08 remaining in the contest. The Tigers fired back with a run of their own and cut the FMU lead down to a little as nine with 7:08 remaining. Florida Memorial was able to keep considerable distance from Edward Waters, sending the Tigers to their third consecutive loss.

The Tigers were outshot 42% to 37% from the floor and were outrebounded 47-42 in the contest. FMU scored 34 points in the paint to 30 for EWU and the Lions reserved thorougly out scored the Tigers' bench 36-5. Edward Waters did score 20 points off 12 Florida Memorial turnovers.

Elias Harden led all scorers on the night with 25 points on 9-of-21 shooting. Rounding out the Tigers' double digit scorers were Jordan Jackson with 19 and a season high 14 points from Jonathan Kayanga.

Edward Waters will close out Keiser Holiday Classic play on Wednesday against the host institution, (RV) Keiser University, at 7:30pm.
