Daka Breaks Record at Spartan Invite, Lions finish in 5th

Saint Leo University issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.

The Saint Leo women's swimming team competed in the four day Spartan Invite, hosted by the University of Tampa, at The Long Center in Clearwater, Florida from Friday to Monday. 

INSIDE THE INVITE:

Final Team Scores: #10 Tampa 1025.5, #7 Nova Southeastern 963, West Florida 510.5, Indian River 441.5, Saint Leo 36.5, Lenoir-Rhyne 139

Location: The Longer Center, Clearwater, Fla.

TOP PERFORMERS:

  • On Sunday, sophomore Annett Daka broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.10, finishing in fifth place. The previous record was held Cecilie Holten back in 2017, when she also broke the record at the Spartan Invite with a time of 1:02.74. 
  • On Monday, Isabelle Sering swam a fifth place finish in the A-Final of the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.38. 
  • In the B-Final of the 200 breaststroke, Emma Bjoernholdt and Paulina Majszutowicz combined for a one-two finish with times of 2:19.37 and 2:21.75, respectively. It was both swimmers best races of the invite. 
  • The Lions also came in first place in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Elze Bielskute, Annett Daka, Emma Bjoernholdt, and Isabelle Sering finished in first with a time of 3:25.30, beating Nova Southeastern's relay team by 0:00.17.

Saint Leo now prepares for conference competition at home hosting Florida Tech on Saturday, January 15 at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center.
