The Division II Conference Commissioners Association released its Baseball South Region Teams on Wednesday and two Lions made the cut for the first time in their careers.
Junior outfielder Bobby Sparling added on to his postseason awards receiving the South Region Player of the Year honor and making the All-Region First Team. Sparling was recently named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year. He led the SSC in home runs (21), RBI's (62), hits (72), slugging percentage (.758), and on-base plus slugging (1.214). The Palm Coast, Florida product is fourth in conference batting average (.371) and seventh in runs scored (46). Sparling was the third Lion to win Player of the Year honors and the first since 1998.
Senior starting pitcher Dariel Fregio was also recognized by making the All-Region Second Team. The Wesley Chapel, Florida native has been dominant this season with two complete games and posting a 4.66 ERA. In 13 starts, he has 57 strikeouts and has held opposing hitters to a .275 batting average. He also earned SSC Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
Saint Leo will begin their postseason play with hosting Lee in the NCAA South Regional Tournament on Thursday at 2:00 at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
