Despite being without three starters due to injury, Edward Waters did not let that faze them as they rolled to a straight sets victory over Fort Valley State in their SIAC opener. With the win, Edward Waters also extended their home winning streak to 12 straight matches dating back to last season.
Edward Waters (7-5, 1-0 SIAC) flexed their dominance throughout the match, turning back every advance from FVSU (1-3, 0-2 SIAC). The Lady Tigers hit .256 in the match and held Fort Valley State to -.022. As a team, the Purple & Orange had 10 service aces as well. Defensively, Edward Waters had a proverbial block party, recording eight blocks on the night and 44 total digs.
Edward Waters was led by Fatima Ramirez with a match high nine kills, followed by Naomy Vergez Varona with seven and freshman Saniya Spalding with five. Catherine Richards recorded six of EWU's 10 blocks on the night, while Katarina Ribar turned in a solid night with 21 assists and 10 digs.
Edward Waters will head to Albany, Georgia to take part in the SIAC Mini Crossover on Saturday, September 17th where they will face both defending SIAC champion Spring Hill at 9:00am, and Tuskegee at 1:00pm.
