Pasco-Hernando State College celebrated its 50th anniversary and Hispanic Heritage Month at its East Campus in Dade City on Sept. 17. The event featured food, music, games and prizes, entertainment, and campus tours and demonstrations highlighting the institution’s many programs of study.
The East Campus caters to a large Hispanic community and planned the event to coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month. The celebration incorporated Latin dance lessons and Hispanic cuisine and art throughout.
“I really feel like PHSC embraces our culture and tries to reach out and be inclusive of everyone,” said Osvaldo Bravo a current student attending the event.
For 50 years PHSC has driven transformational change by providing educational opportunities within our community comprised of a multitude of ethnicities, backgrounds and cultures.
“We are proud of our efforts throughout the years to have served more than 60,000 students from our communities,” said Timothy L. Beard, Ph.D., PHSC president.
Many students, employees, retirees, special guests and visitors attended the event which kicks off the year of celebrations.
“This event was a great opportunity to come out and meet each other in an interactive environment and get connected especially after COVID restrictions,” said Bravo.
Bravo stated he and his girlfriend, who is also a student, made a point to come to the event and that they both look forward to attending future celebrations and in-person classes.
PHSC plans to host similar community celebrations at each campus throughout its 50th anniversary year. Visit https://phsc.edu/history to learn more about this event and other upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations.
