Notice of Local Technology Planning Team Meeting

The Hernando County Local Technology Planning Team will hold a meeting in the Utilities Department Training Room, 15365 Cortez Blvd. Brooksville, FL 34613, on October 12, 2022 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. This meeting is open to the public. The Hernando County Local Technology Team will begin a series of public meetings designed to create an initial assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of internet speeds and services across the county. The state of Florida’s Office of Broadband, created in 2020, has asked each county in Florida to complete an assessment of its strengths and weaknesses by interviewing industry sector representatives and residents from unserved and underserved areas.

The legislative requirement is for the team to include representatives from the education, library, agriculture, health, business, industry, public safety, tourism, and local internet service provision sectors. This initial meeting will include, but not be limited to, introductions, a discussion of potential funding, and consensus-building centered around the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s (DEO) Broadband Planning Toolkit. Additionally, initial suggestions for potential project areas will be included and shared with the public. The public is welcome and encouraged to participate.

DEO has developed Florida’s Broadband Availability Map and internet speed test to identify and assist in gathering more data about the state’s broadband internet service availability. Find both the map and speed test at www.FloridaJobs.org/Broadband or take the speed test now online. Residents are encouraged to complete the test at home and at work. Data collected will help with applying for grants or funding that may become available in the future to improve internet service countywide. Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Florida Statutes § 286.0105, that any persons deciding to appeal any matter considered at this meeting will need a record of the meeting and may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, persons with disabilities needing a special accommodation to participate in this proceeding should contact Carla Rossiter-Smith, Grants and Operations Performance Coordinator, 15470 Flight Path Dr, Brooksville FL 34613, (352) 754-4004 ext. 24153.
