Hernando County Animal Services has lifted the suspension of dog operations due to the Pneumovirus, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Animal Services will resume full services including dog adoptions, intakes, surgeries, and rescue transfers on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.

In appreciation for the community support, Hernando County is waiving all adoption fees starting Wednesday, December 28, 2022 through Saturday, January 7, 2023. Adoptions can be made at Hernando County Animal Services located at 19450 Oliver Street, Brooksville, FL 34601.

Hernando County’s Staff Veterinarian Dr. Melissa Brady stated, “During the shutdown the community really stepped up by providing blankets, toys, and food as donations for our dogs. We are grateful for all the support we received from Hernando County leadership and would like to thank all our staff and volunteers that came in to help make sure our dogs daily needs were met.” Dr. Brady continued by saying, “It is paramount that our community is aware of the importance of dog vaccinations. Although there is no vaccination for Pneumovirus, making sure dogs are vaccinated helps prevent the spread of common respiratory diseases found in dogs.

”Hernando County Government is aware that the virus is likely still present in our community.

Please be cautious and contact your veterinarian if your pet shows signs of sneezing, a runny nose, watery eyes, and coughing.

Hernando County Animal Services is fully open to the public and will be providing all services including pet licensing and owner-requested euthanasia needs. In observance of New Year’s Day, Animal Services will be closed Tuesday, January 3, 2022 and will reopen with regular operating hours on Wednesday, January 4, 2022.

Lost pets can be reported to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Unit by calling 352-754-6830. For more tips on lost pets and how to help the community search for their owners, visit www.Facebook.com/HernandoCountyAnimalServices.
