Residents are invited to participate in free, on-line and in-person learning through virtual, interactive as well as in-person classes on Florida-Friendly Landscaping during the month of May. The classes will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. A link to participate in the virtual classes will be provided on the Events portion of the  Facebook page. All of the virtual classes are recorded, and residents can access the recordings on Facebook at their convenience. The classes are also offered on the Hernando County Government YouTube Channel.

In-Person Class – Wednesday, May 11th at 2:30pm
Landscape Care When It’s Hot and Dry
Location: Spring Hill Branch Library (9220 Spring Hill Dr., Spring Hill, FL 34608)

  • May is a hot and dry month in Central Florida. It is also the time people utilize their irrigations systems the most, but often not very efficiently. Learn the steps to take to manage your landscape so it can withstand the hot, dry springtime weather.

  • Many people rely on their irrigation systems as a life-line for their landscape. In reality, irrigation is designed to supplement natural rainfall. Learn to understand how your irrigation system works, and how to use it in a cost-effective and landscape-loving manner. Dr. William Lester, University of Florida/IFAS Hernando County will be joining Lilly Browning for this informative talk.

Virtual Rain Barrel Workshop – Thursday, May 26th at 6:00pm

You MUST be registered to attend. Email LillyB@hernandocounty.us to RSVP.

  • This workshop will be offered in a virtual Zoom format.
  • Pick up of the bins and barrels will be on Friday, May 27th at the Hernando County Utilities Department between 11am–1pm.
  • 55 gallon Rain Barrels cost $64. Customers of Hernando County Utilities will receive a one-time credit of $30 on their water bill for attending a workshop and installing a rain barrel at their home.
  • Class size is limited, first come, first served.
