Hernando County issued the following announcement on Aug. 10.
CURRENT SITUATION
According to the National Hurricane Center, Potential Tropical Cyclone Six (PTC #6) continued to gradually organize overnight and is likely to develop into Tropical Storm Fred later today. PTC #6 currently has maximum sustained winds of around 35 mph and is moving to the west-northwest at 17 mph. The system is approximately 1,250 miles southeast of Miami, Florida.
Some strengthening is forecast over the next 24 to 36 hours as it continues west-northwest, before land interaction is expected to weaken the system. PTC #6 will remerge over the far southwestern Atlantic late in the week where some gradual strengthening may resume. PTC #6 should continue to be monitored later this week and into the weekend. The forecast track, intensity, and potential impacts remain uncertain at this time.
