The Hernando County Courthouse Judicial Center Renovation Project

32

The Hernando County Courthouse is scheduled for renovations to improve and expand the courtrooms, relocate offices, and enhance security beginning late summer or early fall. The public will be notified when construction has begun.

“As the population continues to grow so does the need for more court rooms and expansion of offices. Additional court rooms are necessary to ensure we can meet the constitutional right to a speedy trial” said County Administrator, Jeff Rogers. “Back in 2021, Hernando County Government relocated several offices from the Courthouse to the development services complex at 789 Providence Drive, Brooksville, Fl 34604 and a new Government Administration Office located at 15470 Flight Path Drive, Brooksville, FL 34604. Along with this move, upgrades were set in motion to enhance the Judicial Center and improve security upgrades.”

The Judicial Center Renovations include relocating the main entrance to the basement level, a new lobby, removal of the long stairs and bridge, adding 7 new ADA parking spaces adjacent to the building, 4 new courtrooms, relocation of offices, and new court rooms. These upgrades will improve public access and provide better visibility for security purposes.

The new lobby will include a translucent canopy which will be compatible with the existing building containing matching brick, blue metal, and tinted blue bullet resistant glazing materials. New security upgrades such as a new secured elevator, in-custody holding area and cells, campus wide security, and an enhanced technology system are also included in the plan.

This project will continue throughout 2022 and into 2023. For additional information please contact the Hernando County Public Information office at (352) 540-6426.
