The call came from homeowner who reported a fire from the garage. The homeowner attempted to extinguish the fire prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Brooksville Fire Department DC60, E61, B61 as well as HCFES BC3 and E14 arrived within 11 minutes and reported heavy smoke from a detached garage. The crews advanced a hose stream and extinguished the fire within 2 minutes. The fire was kept to the area of origin; however, there was some plastic and insulation foam from the garage door that damaged the occupants’ vehicles. The fire was deemed under control at 4:11 p.m.
According to crews on scene, there was a 5-gallon gasoline jug as well as a box of Christmas decorations in the corner of the garage, in the area where the fire started. The Florida State Fire Marshall was called to investigate the cause of the fire. One occupant was transported to the hospital for an injury not related to the fire.
BFD responded with 1 District Chief, 1 Engine, 1 Squad/Brush Unit, HCFES providing automatic mutual aid responded with 2 fire engines, 1 ALS medic units, and 1 Battalion Chiefs, for a total of 14 personnel.
